David Ochocho
Neema Church of Christ
Oyugis, Kenya

David Ochocho joined the CMI team at the beginning of our work in Kenya. Along with his co-worker Gregory Ochieng, he was the first young man to train at the Nairobi Great Commission School. He was single then but later married Emeldah, who gave birth to a little boy they named Myers. Rod first met Emeldah on his 2017 visit to Kenya. She was working in a little store they managed as a means of income while they worked in the ministry. As of this writing, they are expecting their second child.

David preaches for the Neema Church of Christ in Oyugis. This church plant from Joshua Village was started about four years ago by David, Gregory, and Tom Opondo, a Nairobi Great Commission School professor who lives in this area. They have been meeting in a rented facility. In 2022 CMI was able to help them purchase a piece of property in the area and make improvements by fencing it, putting in a gate, building a toilet, and now an office/storage facility. In addition, they purchased a large tent as a temporary meeting place. They also installed electricity. They plan to move to their property in April or May 2023. These improvements attract the attention of neighbors interested in knowing more about this ministry.

David has shown leadership among the area churches as he participates in the monthly meetings from church to church. He also has a heart for the younger generation and their complicated struggles from adolescence to adulthood. Unfortunately, too many are lost in this transition. Hopefully, CMI can have the ability to provide a permanent facility for the church soon. God willing, David will be important in God’s plan to grow the kingdom in this part of Kenya.
